eCommerce web site hosting is the type of hosting that is required by an enterprise that will be selling products or services directly from their web site. An on-line enterprise has some added requirements but the basic criteria for selecting a hosting service still apply, in fact they are of greater significance because of the potential to lose business if the hosting service is poor.

For eCommerce web site hosting the following should be considered:

Site Availability – Your hosting service ought to give an uptime guarantee with a financial penalty if it is missed. Whilst no one can provide 100% uptime you want to get as close to this as feasible. If shoppers want to buy and your site is down they will go to a different site. If your site is down regularly it will result in a significant negative impact on your business.

Site Operation and Page Load Times – Consumers will want to move through your site as speedily as possible. If your site is slow you will lose buyers who will just move to your rivals. Even if they stick with the site and make a purchase they are less likely to come back.

Helpdesk – Good quality support should be obtainable 24/7. If there are any urgent issues they must be resolved without delay.

Shopping Cart/Payment Processing – An eCommerce web site hosting service will offer a SSL certificate to provide security for your customers and it should be easy to add a shopping cart (you might see a choice of shopping carts) to your site.

Upgrade Path – As you are starting a business which you expect to expand, it is important that your hosting service can look after you as this comes about. For example you do not need your page loading speeds to get slower as your site gets busy.

Supplementary Functionality – A high-quality hosting service will provide all-embracing email capabilities, virus protection, security from hackers/malware and backups of your site and data.

Some web hosting companies offer specific eCommerce hosting plans whilst others just incorporate it within their ordinary plans. However, if you are opening a serious business you will need to take a business targeted plan that will offer you more functionality, such as your own (not shared) SSL certificate.

Shopping cart functionality is not consistent. Some hosting providers let you integrate a 3rd party shopping cart whilst others sell their own and the package you pick limits the functionality e.g. how many items you can have in your shop and how many delivery choices you can use.

Changing your eCommerce web site hosting service once you are up and running would be a major upheaval to your business that you want to avoid. Choosing your hosting service is therefore a serious decision. You must look for a well known business with a first-rate reputation for support which should be in the business for many years to come. Time used on research at the outset will be a good investment.

Ever since the Internet was launched commercially in 1988, the World Wide Web has been inundated with billions of websites being launched. A majority of Internet users rely on Google, the worlds foremost Search Engine, when looking for information, products, research, etc. Google lists the sites in Search Engine Results Page (SERPs) according to the keyword/phrase that the user enters in the search box. The listings in the SERPs are from websites listed in the Google database. Google does not list the sites arbitrarily, and there is a method to this madness of Search Engine Ranking. Ranking for a website in SERPs is achieved with proper Search Engine Optimization. It does not help a business if the website is listed on the nth page of SERPs as searchers normally find what they are looking for in the first three pages of listing, or abandon the search after a few pages. Therefore it is essential for a website and business to be ranked and listed in the first three pages for keywords/phrases related to their websites and which searchers use.Every website owner dearly wants their site listed on the first page of Google Search results and even aspires to be number one in the SERPs for particular keywords/phrases that are searched, or presume to be searched by users. But it is not possible for every one of the millions of sites that are listed in Search Engine results for a keyword/phrase to be listed on the first page or for every site to be number one. It is possible, however, to optimize a website according to Search Engine Optimization guidelines, principles, and Google guidelines, and achieve Search Engine Ranking for a website for particular keywords/phrases that are used in searches. Keyword Research for search terms is the first crucial and essential step towards optimization. It is useless to optimize a website for keywords/phrases that are not used by searchers or are searched very sparingly. It is important to understand that ranking for keywords/phrases and listing in SERPs on the first page or at number one position cannot be achieved in a day, a week or a month, and requires continuous and regular SEO to achieve and maintain Search Engine Ranking. Ranking depends on the website design, keywords, competing websites, PageRank of the website and competing websites, number of back links, On-Page Optimization parameters, page content, and many other essential parameters. It is also essential to understand that Google uses a complex algorithm to rank individual pages, and not whole websites in SERPs, and considers millions of parameters for a web page. Only Google knows what those parameters are exactly, but Search Engine Optimization Experts and Specialists are aware of many of these parameters through years of analysis and use of Optimization techniques, and can rank a web page, or many pages of a website for keywords/phrases.Some of the parameters to achieve Search Engine Ranking are keyword research, On-Page Optimization of website pages with keywords/phrases, page content optimization with keywords/phrases, and Off-Page Optimization with link building. Link building or acquiring Back Links is very important for your web pages. Back Links to your website pages from web pages with content related to your web page, or even from sites with unrelated content, but with high PageRank, is beneficial. But care has to be taken to ensure that these Back Links from pages with unrelated content are not from “Bad Neighborhood” sites like gambling, casinos, online pharmacies, or sex and porn related sites. The Quality of the Back Link is more important than the Quantity of the Back Links. It is just like having a few good friends instead of a hundred or a thousand casual acquaintances, or not so loyal friends, or friends with a bad background. After all, your reputation and stature in society depends on the company you keep. The same principle applies to your website in Search Engine Optimization.

For more information on Search Engine Optimization or if you want to achieve Search Engine Ranking for your website and keywords/phrases, please do visit our site or write to us.

In this age of interactive web, organizations can no longer afford to serve ‘content’ the old fashioned way. Aiming to expand their online presence rapidly, technology savvy organizations are using Web 2.0 techniques such as wikis, blogs, RSS feeds and even, enterprise mashups to engage users with multiple touch points. Corporate blogs are being used to strengthen stakeholder communications, while RSS feeds are making it possible to automatically push personalized and customized Website updates to consumers.

However, the same level of flexibility that has made internet so powerful has also brought forward a host of new challenges. The whole point of Web 2.0 is to be able to listen to our customers, prospects and partners and respond accordingly. So in a world where information changes this rapidly, Websites need to be monitored and constantly updated. This is extremely crucial as seldom do users (and search engines) revisit Websites that have stale content. Manual configuration and updating of Websites can take a long time, and are expensive too. The problems increase exponentially if they involve integration with multiple systems such as a campaign management or a CRM system. Further, as content management involves a host of tasks including usability, design, and information architecture – most organizations find it extremely challenging to ensure that the Website reflects the dynamic needs of their business. Web Content Management– the way to serve and manage content

Web content management systems have matured to answer some of these questions. Quite simply, a web content management system is a tool that enables and eases the creation, maintenance and management of a Website. The biggest plus point is that it allows non-technical subject matter experts to manage different aspects of a Website such as navigation, page layout and links without any knowledge of programming tools or languages. Increasing the speed and ease of publishing content

The benefits of a CMS are far reaching. Organizations can now accelerate their speed of publishing content by giving subject matter experts tools that are simple to use. Maintaining the same look and feel across the site is also far simpler as content specialists can focus more on creating content than worry about formatting changes.

As an example, consider the marketing arm of a technology services firm that has just found out from its sales team that there is an SAP implementation services contract coming up, and the company awarding the contract is checking the Websites for understanding the capabilities of vendors before it shortlists likely vendors. Under normal circumstances, the marketing team would have hurriedly caught hold of the developer and asked him to put up a few links of SAP whitepapers hidden deep inside the site on the home page. Now, if the same company had a Website CMS, the subject matter experts could have instead created a micro-site with content on the fly just by pushing a few buttons. Due to the ease of uploading content, the same team could have also added some more newly created whitepapers. Where time is at a premium, Website CMS prove to be invaluable.

Similarly, if the subject matter expert needs to track the user who has shown interest in a specific whitepaper, he can easily create a form to capture user data directly through the CMS. Tomorrow, if the marketing team desires to run a campaign showcasing RFID capabilities, they can easily create a dedicated web page or micro-site within the main Website. Such ease of use makes Website CMS a powerful tool for marketing initiatives.Maintaining consistency and link integrity

Web content management systems help organizations maintain consistency across all pages of their web site so that branding and design are controlled to the level desired (e.g. controlling style sheets, templates, navigation etc.), regardless of who is responsible for the actual content. As a result, visitors have a consistent and professional experience on the Website. CMS is an invaluable tool in maintaining link integrity – thereby significantly reducing the chance of your users encountering a missing link. This is critical as a missing link in the online world could easily mean a missed business opportunity. Full control

Features like complete system auditing and reporting provides organizations the ability to manage and track the history of all work easing adherence to compliance regulations. Files can be given a full document lifecycle, including check-in, check-out, versioning, rollback, approvals, and scheduling. A Website content management system has intelligent workflow automation, ensuring that content passes through appropriate quality check points and approvals before being published.

Additionally, completely configurable workflows enable organizations to assign tasks to different persons, and set escalation rules in case defined thresholds are crossed. For example, e-mail alerts can be triggered to content owners of specific sections on a Website, when these sections don’t get updated after a specific time period has elapsed. Infrastructure required to do this in a traditional system is beyond the reach of most small and medium sized organizations.

In a digital world where your content can be creatively used in a variety of forms such as whitepapers, podcasts, articles or images, effectively managing and repurposing this content is critical for competitive advantage. A Website content management system can help manage these tasks easily by centralizing and streamlining the process of controlling life cycle of the published content. A centralized control process also enables organizations to measure the success of its various online marketing initiatives.

Improved Website searchability

Since a Website content management system manages all content consistently, built-in search engines make finding content on a Website fast and easy. The SaaS way to manage content

While content management systems help business users manage content effectively, organizations must also understand that most content management systems are expensive to procure, time consuming to implement and configure, and difficult to maintain… but it doesn’t have to be this way.

Content management systems from providers like CrownPeak deliver their solution as Software as a Service or SaaS. By accessing ‘software’ as a service, organizations are spared the high initial cost of purchasing the license. Moreover, as the software is hosted, there is no additional hardware to buy and no software to install and no infrastructure to manage. The application is accessed via your Web browser from anywhere in the world and the organization just pays a fixed monthly or quarterly fee and leaves the task of managing, maintaining and upgrading the software to the vendor.

Organizations also save cost as they do not have to employ IT, system integrator, developer or Web agency resources to tweak the HTML, workflow, or to take care of hosting. The real work in a CMS implementation begins after the site goes live which is when most vendors leave you the keys to the CMS and say good luck. But players such as CrownPeak provide a dedicated account manager for the lifetime of the service, who is the same person who actually implements the CMS for your site, as part of your monthly cost. By using a SaaS model, organizations can also cut down on their risk, and choose different functionalities as they grow. This is an extremely attractive value proposition when compared to the traditional software model, where costs are paid upfront, maintenance and site changes are still charged after launch, and the risk of product implementation and adoption rests almost totally on the customer. If you have a web presence, you need a Website CMS

In a global marketplace, where geographical boundaries are blurred, your next customer may come from a place you never imagined before. Clearly, the Website is the most visible and important touch point. Not having a Website content management system to handle this dynamic environment could be a recipe for disaster. Content not managed properly can not only mean lost business opportunities, but can also trigger compliance issues. The answer to the question, “Why do you need a Website CMS?” is as obvious as the answer to, “Do I need a web presence?” today.

A good plan today is always better than a perfect plan tomorrow. Few people realize procrastination is the fastest way to disaster when it comes to implementing a Content Management System (CMS). The right metrics must be in place before you decide to procure and implement a CMS.

Before a CMS purchase or implementation, key business goals and the metrics used to measure those goals need to be identified. Without the right metrics, a CMS cannot realize its full potential because you’ll never be able to justify its cost. Like sails for a ship, metrics can ensure that content management is steered in the right direction.

The main goal of any technology purchase is to allow users to execute tasks more effectively and therefore reduce costs. And the only way to know if you’ve reduced costs is to have a basis of measurement from which to benchmark and measure going forward.

There is really no magic set of metrics applicable to every implementation in every organization. Every company, department and individual has different priorities; but with that said, there are definitely some common objectives to consider.Metric #1: Speed and Ease of Publishing Content

This is probably the most common reason for implementing a CMS. As you launch new products and services, you need to be able to quickly and easily update your Web site; and your CMS must provide the capability to accelerate content publishing. Subject matter experts (SMEs) need intuitive tools that are simple to use. Key Performance Indicators (KPI) here are financial and non-financial metrics that can then help measure the rapidity and easiness of the CMS’ content publisher.Metric #2: Quality of Information

Many organizations make the mistake of dumping a huge avalanche of content on unsuspecting users. To succeed in attracting readers – and more importantly search engines – the focus must be on improving the quality of content. Information quality can be measured by allowing users to vote, rate, or comment on content. And any good CMS should be able to affect the workflow and promote that content based on those ratings.Metric #3: Productivity

Productivity is the metric that most organizations try to tie numbers to, but ironically it is also one of the hardest to quantify. Productivity measurements usually fall into one of three areas:

•	Time: The hours, days, or weeks saved by users of the CMS in creating, editing, reviewing and publishing content.

•	Technology: The increase in value from the CMS, versus a manual or legacy process that the application is replacing. For example, with a hosted Web content management solution the productivity of the IT staff increases because the shift from managing hardware and infrastructure of the CMS shifts to more mission critical applications within the enterprise.

•	Resources: Simply the better use of your employee resources. Are your marketing resources better used managing content rather than creating it? Or as a twist to the above example, are your IT resources adding more value installing software patches and upgrades rather than creating new functionality within the CMS to support marketing?Metric #4: Cost Reductions

A combination of elements contributes to the total cost of owning a CMS. These elements include license fees, training costs, maintenance costs, hardware related costs and implementation costs. Organizations must clearly define metrics that capture information at a granular level for each of these components, and the ability of the CMS to reduce costs at a holistic level. Keep this completely different set of considerations in mind when evaluating different types of content management systems; like traditional installed solutions, a Software-as-a-Service CMS, open source, and even custom-built.Metric # 5: Web site performance

Web site performance is by far the easiest to measure, with the use of any standard Web site analytics tool. Metrics can be built around anything from increasing total unique site visitors, to minimizing abandon rate on specific pages. The options are endless, but the caveat here, as with all these metrics, is to state them upfront and be able to tie business benefits to them. Conclusion

Metrics are a concrete way of defining what a content management project will accomplish, and whether it will meet those goals. For effectiveness, metrics should be (wherever possible) quantitative rather than qualitative. For example, instead of having a broad metric such as ‘Achieve significant reduction in IT costs”, a more defined metric such as ‘Achieve 20% reduction in IT costs in the first year’ will be more helpful.

Once the base metrics are established, organizations can look at moving to the next level, defining metrics such as percentage of sales achieved through the Web site due to improved content quality, or improved lead conversion rates. It must also be remembered that metrics need constant review and revision where necessary.

This focus on metrics provides much-needed visibility on the impact of CMS on day-to-day operations. Metrics give direction and if used effectively, can communicate the immense value a CMS can provide to increasing business opportunities.

However, new Web 2.0 Web development programs make this task so easy that nearly anyone can do it. With drag-and-drop functionality, it’s a simple matter to design a website from the ground up using basic building blocks. for more help visit to:www.automatic-content.com.Users have the option of either remade banners or headers and often also have the ability to customize these headers for their own specific needs. All of this can be accomplished without learning a single bit of HTML code – the software handles all of this behind the scenes.Sometimes new web developers are at a loss for ideas. Software that gives them a jumpstart by providing assistance with banners and headers often gives them just the boost they need to get started with their web designs. New web design software handles this task nicely. Remade banners can often be used to build basic sites. Some programs also allow the users to tweak the existing remade banners by swapping out graphics or changing colors and backgrounds. This gives users the ease of remade banners along with the flexibility of doing their own thing. The best of these new programs even provide a method for the user to store their modified banners within the program for use on future sites. While layout and design can be learned, often it’s easier and certainly much faster to use an existing site has a reference when doing the basic skeleton of a website layout. By allowing users to drag and drop the building blocks onto their framework for their website, the new generation of website design programs assists the user in creating a website layout from scratch. These programs do not require the user to know any CSS or work with complicated tables. The coding happens behind the scenes as the building blocks are placed. For more help visit to: www.javascript-magic.com.Some of these programs will even auto size images as they are dropped into the box. This speeds development even further, while keeping things simple enough that the most inexperienced user will have no difficulty in creating a professional layout. All of this can be accomplished without coding a single line of HTML. In the past in order to create a website and web developer first had to learn HTML, and then build the site using raw code. Not only did it take a considerable amount of time to learn HTML, it took even longer to reach the point where the developer could visualize the final site while looking at the code. Since the newest programs handle the coding behind the scenes, users can spend their time creates a nice professional looking layout and working on the content of the site instead of spending their time working on code. The new generation of website builder programs helps bring development of professional looking websites into the hands of even the most inexperienced users.

A Content Management System, or CMS for short, is an administrative software system that allows its users, often unskilled in HTML and web development, to update, edit and create new pages on their website.

Can your company relate to any of the above scenarios? If so, using a CMS will save a lot of time, hassle and money in the long run.

Basic of a CMSA typical CMS works like this,

More elaborate CMS can perform unique functions (such as archiving, built-in search engines, and mod rewrites), but basic functionality is still related to easy creation and editing of web pages.

Types of CMSProprietary CMSThese systems are usually very expensive to purchase such as the $500,000 and up Viggnette system. These high end systems however come loaded with full features and usually have excellent customer and technical support. Common uses of these systems involve very large organizations with departments that require unique functionality.Open sourceThese systems are typically free and relatively easy to install. Some of the better known open source systems include Mambo and Drupal. Because of its open source nature however, you will find a dearth of customer and technical support, however there exists a huge following and forums dedicated to the popular systems. Customization capabilities vary from system to system. Be sure to do all the necessary research before deciding on one.

Custom CMS These types of systems are usually preferred as they allow you to develop from scratch, your preferred functionality. Debugging is also less of an issue as your web developer, having written the codes, can easily isolate and fix problems.

Bear in mind there are literally hundreds of CMS to choose from. Ranging in costs from free to over $500,000. What you do need to do, is firstly figuring out exactly what functionality your organization needs, your development budget and finally find a system that suits those needs best.

The downside to installing a CMS is of course, the amount of web development needed initially. While you are able to obtain free open source CMS programs, you still need to hire someone experienced and capable enough to integrate it correctly. This initial expense however, is usually a necessary evil and is justified as you avoid the need of hiring or outsourcing your webmastering needs down the road.

Search engine optimizing your CMSIf you do decide to install a CMS for your web site, the following considerations should be applied.

Mod rewritesThis ensures that your dynamically generate URLs are search engine friendly as opposed to using long session ids and strings. The search engines bots will then have no difficulty in indexing and caching these pages.

Fields for title and meta data entryIdeally, you want to be able to insert your own title tags and meta tags. This applies to the alt tag code for all images as well. Using the correct keywords in these tags often provides a nice search engine rankings boost.

SitemapsAll generated pages should be automatically inserted into your global sitemap. This allows the search engine bots to easily find and spider all new pages.

Ultimately a CMS is meant to make life easier, not creating new rigid standards that require stop gap hacks or workaround solutions. Visualscope Studios has developed a custom CMS that can be suitably modified to meet your organizations’ needs.

As we all know, not all search engine optimization methods are ethical. Search engines, such as Google, are making every effort to try to differentiate between ethical internet marketers and those who are simply taking the “easy” way out with spam. The definition of spam, however, has been something of a debatable topic for many search engine optimization experts. The reason that everybody is working so hard to define it is because when it comes time to search engine optimize, there is a grey area between what spams is, and what is not. What is ethical marketing, and what is not? For a word that is so commonly utilized, spam is a very difficult thing to pinpoint and around which to place boundaries. An internet marketer would not want to inadvertently have their site penalized after all of the time and effort they have put toward making the site as search engine optimized as possible. In theory, the difference is that a “non-spam” website that is truly meant for content, selling a product or service, and is optimized so that its content – which has value to the reader – is most attractive among search engines. On the other hand, a “spam” website is created for marketing purposes only. It has no real informational value and its content is worthless except for its attempts to achieve a search engine ranking. Such spam sites can include those that have pages copied directly from other websites that are not of public domain. They might also include pages that are simply lists of keywords, instead of articles that happen to use the keywords among their information. Another kind of spam site is one that appears to either be blank or have text or images on it, but it also has hidden text in the background that has keywords repeated over and over, or simply in lists. This is done by making the text color and the background color the same color so that it is not visible to the reader. However, some would argue that creating a site, such as one with keywords hidden in the background, is not unethical at all. The reason they argue for its validity is that it does not try to fool the search engine in any way, and it is unobtrusive to the viewer. Computers can see the text in plain sight; it is only the human eye that does not detect it.However, by doing this, it reduces the chances of sites that are based on legitimate information and key wording techniques. These have been carefully created to include the right words, without taking away from the information and appearance of the site. It means that the sites for which the keywords are truly relevant have a lower chance at achieving proper search engine ranking. To prevent such efforts, search engines have employed such techniques as penalizing web sites and web pages that include information that has been copied directly from other sites. They also penalize pages and sites that have the same word repeated too many times in its content. There are other rules that are utilized as well, but they differ from search engine to search engine. Penalization from a search engine can mean anything from assigning a very low rank, to blocking it from being indexed altogether. Naturally, when you are a legitimate site, you will want to avoid such punishment at all costs. Therefore, when you are performing your search engine optimization, it is important that you take care not to break the “spam” rules of the search engines. This includes one very important technique: when in doubt, err to the side of safety. It’s much better to achieve rank number two instead of number one, when you risk being kicked out altogether. It is not difficult to search engine optimize legitimately. Simply create your own original copy, and write naturally, refraining from repeating your keywords so many times that things look a little bit “fishy”. The same thing goes for repeating the same website under a number of different domain names. Just keep yourself unique and natural, and all will work out in your favor with the search engines.

There is a fine line between proper search engine optimization, and what a search engine will consider to be spam. As we all know, not all search engine optimization methods are ethical. Search engines, such as Google, are making every effort to try to differentiate between ethical internet marketers and those who are simply taking the “easy” way out with spam.

E-commerce is a cut throat business. You have to arm yourself with the proper know-how and the tools to make your site a cut above the rest. Each day, more and more sites are clambering to optimize their rankings in search engines and if you lose your
guard, you may just get trampled on and be left in the abyss filled with so many failed e-commerce sites.

Search Engine Optimization or SEO is a term widely used today by many e-commerce sites. For the past few years and the next ten years or so, search engines will still be the most widely used internet tool.

Most people that use search engines only click on the top ten search results in the first page. Making it to the first page or even to the top three is a barometer of a sites success in search engine optimization. You will get a higher ratio of probability of being clicked on when you rank high, resulting into more traffic (thousands of visitors per day) for your site, implying more leads or sales. The best part of SEO is, you get all this immense traffic and high sales volume for free.

So just what is search engine optimization and do you have to use it? The answer to why you have to use it is an easy one. You need search engine optimization to be number one, or may be at least make your site income generating.

Search engine optimization requires a lot of work to be fully realized. There are many aspects you have to change in your site or add as well to be search engine optimized. These will include getting lots of information about the keyword phrases that are popular in regards to your sites niche or theme. You may also need to rewrite your sites contents so that you could get the right keyword phrases in your site without making it too commercial but light and informative. There are certain rules and guidelines to be followed with making your site’s content applicable and conducive to search engine. You will also need to collaborate with many other sites so that you could get link exchanges and page transfers. The more links you have pointing to your sites from other site or domain the higher your site ranking in search engines.

SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION TECHNIQUES

Insert keywords or key phrases in your title tag.

Avoid linking to link-farms or irrelevant sites. In other words if your pages do not contain any words that reflect the content of the site you are linking to, do not link to it.

Make sure that the text within the title tag is also within the body of the page. Use H1 and bold tags on your keywords once or twice especially at the top of the page.

Do not use the exact same title tag on every page on your website. This is viewed as duplicate content by search engine robots.

Design your page titles to be simple and descriptive, making it easier for search engines to know what each page is about and visitors scanning through search results can easily determine whether your document contains what they are looking for.

Try to add fresh content to your site daily, if possible. Search engine robots like fresh content.

If your site contains plenty of links (pages), you must create a sitemap in XML format (according to Google guideline) and submit it here http://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/login. As a matter of fact you must do this if you want all your pages indexed in Google, and on time. For those of us that might be wondering how to create a sitemap in XML format, you can have your site map created using software, visit the link below http://www.walmol.com/bestbuy/secretspidergenerator.php

Avoid dynamic URLs. These are links with question mark (?). Spiders can’t read these links; instead try using human readable URLs.

When using images, use ALT tags to describe your images. Search engines robots can’t read images but can read ALT tags.

Do not use a submission service; most of them are nothing but spam machines. If you must use submission software, I recommend you use Trellian Submit Wolf. Visit the link below to learn more.
